To many they might seem like an everyday consumable, but choosing the right cable management product can leave a big impression on your customer, explains Emma Segelov at MK Electric.
Cable management solutions – just like any other – need to be top quality, flexible to meet user needs and long lasting. There is a perception that because all products on the market appear the same, they must be similar in quality. This is simply not true, and it’s important for contractors to be able to spot the difference between products in order to recommend the best solution.
Over the past few years, cable management products have evolved considerably in order to meet the needs of both contractor and end-user. Many solutions are designed specifically to cut installation time for contractors, whilst ensuring all the necessary legislative boxes are ticked, and a solid standard of practicality and aesthetics is maintained to keep the customer happy.
A good example of innovative cable management can be found by looking at the MK Electric Prestige 3D range of compartment trunking. Much consideration has been given to ensure Prestige 3D products are compliant with regulations related to the installation of cat 5e, 6 and 7 cables, so that cable capacity and flow is not hindered by sharp bends in a room or lack of space when contained. Flat angles and tees offer divider walls that are curved to allow data cables to lay in with no loss of capacity, while the bridge of a flat tee can be fitted in two positions increasing the versatility of cable runs whilst maintaining the correct segregation.
The range is also made of PVC-u, which is lightweight and easier to cut and fabricate than metal alternatives. Moreover, it is resistant to electricity, which means there is no need for earthing.
But, the innovation doesn’t quite end there. As an extension of the offer, Prestige Antibac Blue is an antibacterial, three compartment power and data trunking system designed to kill bacteria which can grow on surfaces.
In short, Prestige Antibac Blue uses a silver-based additive within the PVC-u which acts as an effective weapon in eradicating bacteria, such as MRSA, rather than just restricting its growth. As the additive is homogenous with the PVC-u compound, the protection runs throughout; in this way, there is no loss of effectiveness where the trunking lengths are cut on-site or if the surface becomes scuffed or scratched.
Looking wider, these Prestige 3D ranges are complemented by an extensive range of leading wiring devices such as the MK Electric Logic PlusTM – which ticks all boxes for the majority of installations.
Again, quick and easy installation is a huge benefit; key features include in-line terminals, funnel entrances to terminals, backed out and captive screws and clear terminal markings.
Aiding safety credentials, Logic PlusTM products also include an inherent antimicrobial property, plus a three-pin operation ‘child resistant shutter system’ which is designed to inhibit access to the electricity supply unless all 3 pins of a standard British 13A plug are in position.
Lastly, the beauty of choosing cable management products from a leading manufacturer is the benefit of wide distribution nationally, stock capability and, of course, quality. Whether it’s a sizeable order or a last-minute need for additional parts, contractors can rest assured of consistent supply, further minimising unneeded and costly downtime.
While they might initially all seem to be alike, ensuring you purchase the right cable management product for the job at hand should be of upmost importance. This will ensure that the individual needs of each project are met, and that the end-user is happy with the solution installed.
