ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 65 Obituary It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry on 30th May 2025, following a courageous battle with illness over the past year. He faced his challenges with strength, grace, and dignity. Gerry began his career in the electrical industry with apprenticeships at Ennis Electrical and P. Lynch Electrical, before joining H. Shiels Ltd in 1988. Over the next 37 years, he built an outstanding reputation, marked by integrity, dedication, and professionalism. In 2005, he was appointed Contracts Director, a role in which he made significant contributions to the company's growth and success. Gerry's leadership and commitment left a lasting legacy, and he will be deeply missed by all his colleagues at H. Shiels Ltd. In 2012, Gerry joined the Executive Council of the Association of Electrical Contractors of Ireland (AECI), where his deep industry knowledge quickly became evident. He went on to serve as Honorary Secretary, then Vice President, and was proudly elected President in 2022, a position he held with distinction until March 2025. In Memory of Gerry Geoghegan Throughout his time with AECI, Gerry represented the association in numerous forums, including engagements with government bodies, the NJIC, Labour Court, and the WRC. He played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the association, and his insight, experience, and steadfast commitment will be profoundly missed by all who had the honour of working with him. On behalf of the AECI Council, staff, and membership, we extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Gerry’s beloved wife Bernie and his family during this time of great loss.
