EPower, a market leader in renewable energy solutions, has completed a second phase of EV charger installations at locations belonging to the Irish Defence Forces. The Irish company has now provided charging equipment across eight locations nationwide for the organisation. The latest locations to be fitted out are Finner Camp in Donegal, Aiken Barracks in Dundalk and Gormanston Camp in Meath, with eight 22kW AC sockets and one 50kW DC fast charge at each base, comprising 27 sockets in total. This is an expansion of ePower’s initial contract with The Irish Defence forces, which saw chargers installed at five bases in 2023, at Haulbowline Naval Base and Collins Barracks in Cork, Custume Barracks Athlone Co Westmeath, the Curragh Camp in Co Kildare and the Air Corps base at Baldonnel in Dublin. Army staff cars, vans and privately-owned electric vehicles at these sites will all be able to use the charging facilities. Commenting on this development, John O’Keeffe, CEO ePower said: “The continuation of our partnership with the Irish Defence Forces is testament to the calibre of work being carried out on the ground by ePower teams, with ongoing maintenance and technical support being very much part of our operation for all clients. This is one of many public projects ePower has undertaken in recent years, and It’s great to see such a drive at a national level to expand green energy solutions for EV drivers.” Col. Damien McEvoy from the Irish Defence Forces said: "We have been very happy with the service provided with ePower since their first round of installations in 2023, and we know these new chargers will be of great benefit to the additional locations in Donegal, Dundalk and Gormanston. It's another step on the sustainability journey for the Irish Defence Forces and we're delighted to continue working with John and his team." ePower, which employs 70 people and has bases in Dublin and Cork, has previously partnered with a number of public bodies in the installation of chargers, including the Dublin Airport Authority, Irish Rail, An Post, the OPW and the Irish Prison Services. In October 2024 the company teamed up with all four of Dublin’s local authorities to install up to 200 fast chargers across the region. It also won six of 17 government contracts to install EV chargers along the national road network through the Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) scheme.
