40 ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • Rittal Ireland A new lightning fast platform for power distribution With the new RiLineX power distribution platform from Rittal, the time-consuming planning of the design, the loss of space when setting up the components and sawing off protective covers are now a thing of the past. Why is this so innovative? Until now, the installation of power distribution technology in control cabinets has been a real time-waster. Planning and installation are often complex for plant manufacturers, and it is not uncommon for there to be a lack of skilled workers. The 60mm busbar technology, which has been established since the early 2000s, also leaves a lot to be desired in practice. Although it has established itself primarily in Europe due to numerous advantages over 1:1 cabling in the control cabinet, there is now a clear need for further development – for example, in the dimensioning of the busbars. PREVIOUSLY: LOSS OF SPACE AND TIME Until now, the flat copper rails, which are arranged at intervals of 60 millimeters with corresponding holders, have to be mounted at project-specific intervals depending on the necessary short-circuit resistance. However, no body components can be mounted at these points. The loss of space must already be taken into account during the planning phase. In addition, open contacts pose a danger. In order to protect people and technology, plastic covers have to be cut to size in a time-consuming manner before commissioning. The result is scrap and plastic waste: On average, 1.9 kilograms of waste of excess plastic are generated per system by sawing the contact protection covers. NOW: EASIER AND SAFER With the new RiLineX power distribution platform from Rittal, the planning and installation process is now being significantly accelerated. Since the copper rails in the new busbar system are installed directly in the board without special brackets, the body components can be easily planned and installed throughout. Complicated sawing is also no longer necessary. The cover remains in the system over the rails from the outset and protects against accidental contact. The contact protection is certified according to protection class IP2XB. This prevents the penetration of foreign objects with a diameter of 12mm or more. On the front, the contact protection can also be extended to IP 3X protection. In this way, Rittal protects the system from foreign objects with a diameter of 2.5mm or more. Touching with fingers is excluded in any case. Thanks to its design, Rittal can pretest the entire system for short-circuit resistance of up to 52.5 kA, so that both planners and users can rely on an all-round safe solution. RiLineX is suitable for applications in the range of up to 1000 V AC as well as direct current up ± 1500 V DC. 30 TO 50% FASTER The solution significantly reduces the processing effort from planning to installation and maintenance and makes plant construction much more Control and switchgear construction continues to be under great pressure, with time and cost pressures everincreasing, as well as a shortage of skilled workers. Pacemakers are needed in plant engineering – for example in power distribution technology. The solution: RiLineX from Rittal, a new, open platform system for even more efficient planning and faster assembly of 60mm busbar systems. We’ve seen efficiency gains of up to 50%, helping to reduce pressures on workloads.
