Hence, the EU wants to phase them out through new restrictions and legislation. As a consequence, many tonnes of this toxic chemical element will no longer be polluting the environment. While some light sources have already been banned, the widely used T5 and T8 light sources will soon also become obsolete. While some light sources are already prohibited, these dates will apply to T5/T8. • Compact fluorescent lamps will be phased out from 25 February 2023. • T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes will be phased out from 25 August 2023. This will affect many buildings in Europe, and that is time to plan the transition to LED lighting. Ban on mercury in light sources, T5/T8 www.glamox.ie
