Targets Flexible Spaces With New DALI Lighting Control System A NEW DALI lighting control system from B.E.G. is being launched to the Irish market, providing solutions for open plan spaces, individual rooms, corridors, staircases for the control of DALI luminaires without the requirement of a centralised panel. The German manufacturer is launching DACO PRO which uses multicast technology to allow multiple lighting groups to operate from a single DALI line. Individual zones can be controlled separately when a space is divided, then synchronised when partitions are removed. The approach is aimed particularly at environments such as classrooms, sports halls and multi-purpose spaces, staircases and corridors, offering simplified installation, app-based programming and partition switching. B.E.G., which has been developing lighting and building control technology since 1975, says the system has been developed around the practical requirements of modern building use. Dan Glynn, Sales Director for UK & Ireland at B.E.G., said: “The opportunity with this product is simplified and reduced installation time, with no central hub required. End clients can be trained by B.E.G. to make changes to system and reduce their maintenance costs. “An educational building is a good example where the key features can address value. Commercial and residential buildings can reduce their energy with the options to maintain the lighting in house, with no ongoing commissioning costs. “With DACO PRO, the different lighting groups can respond to occupancy and daylight independently. This means lighting can be matched to the part of the building actually being used, rather than automatically treating the whole area as a single zone.” The multicast approach also means multiple control loops can be established using one DALI line. B.E.G. says this can reduce the requirement for additional cabling to central panels and backbone requirements. Glynn said the system was developed with the practical requirements of installation and commissioning in mind, with flexibility. “We wanted to make the control architecture more flexible without making the installation more complicated,” he said. “Using one DALI line for multiple control loops means you can achieve different lighting arrangements without having to build a separate control system around every room. “The ability to alter the configuration is particularly relevant where the original use of a space is likely to change. Rather than installing a fixed lightingcontrol arrangement based solely on the initial building layout, the control groups can be adjusted to reflect how the space is subsequently used.” The DACO PRO system can be configured using a smartphone app, while an infrared device allows DALI devices to be addressed and grouped during commissioning. B.E.G. DACO PRO system allows lighting zones to work independently as a standalone DALI addressable system.
