The workshop at AP Haslam Ltd. has been providing bespoke solutions to Ireland’s electrical and construction industry for over 35 years. As Keith Haslam, General Manager of AP Haslam’s explains “By ordering pre-assembled enclosures from the AP Haslam workshop you can combine components from various suppliers to create the enclosure which best suits your specification and price”.

“A number of years back we identified that some customers required pre-assembled enclosures for more hazardous and explosion proof environment” Keith added. This is a skilled area of assembly and by its very application can have disastrous consequences if not performed correctly.

SPARTAN products. Flood, Street and Recess from Raytec.

However, working with their longtime partner Weidmüller they set about a training and accreditation process for ATEX assembly. This was first achieved in 2018. This in fact made APH one of just five accredited 3rd Party Network Assembler (TPA) partners in the whole of Ireland and UK, and the only one based in Ireland.   “This was a great achievement for Mark Tyson and the whole workshop team, and it has significantly added to the specialist manufacturing services we can offer at AP Haslam”, Keith enthused.

But as Mark Tyson, workshop manager explains “Achieving TPA accreditation was not just a ‘one off’ effort but as part of our TPA accreditation, it is mandatory to undergo training and recertification every year”.  As Leigh Wilson, Business Development Manager at Klippon Engineering Weidmüller stressed at a recent training session “Weidmüller is committed to providing high-quality training that meets industry standards and is delivered by experts in the field”. He added “We encourage all our accredited assemblers to attend this training programme, and I’m delighted that AP Haslam are always enthusiastic participants.”

This year at Electex in the RDS on 11th & 12th Sept AP Haslam will be showcasing their ATEX junction box assembly service alongside some exciting new products in Hazardous Area Lighting from Raytec. Richie Kavanagh, Hazardous Area specialist with AP Haslam is enthusiastic about these new products that Raytec are launching at the show. “The SPARTAN Mid Power Flood & Bay Intelligent Emergency is a first of its kind on the Irish market” Richie points out. “The product is available in Zone 1/21 and Zone 2/22 variants and has IP66 and IP67 ratings for resistance to dust and water.” Richie adds.  “Also being launched is the SPARTAN Recess. The next generation of recessed luminaires for hazardous areas”.

The EU plan to phase out all fluorescent lighting came into effect in September 2023. This places additional challenges on companies looking to replace light fittings in Zone 1 & Zone 2 areas. “The SPARTAN Recess is light weight and easy to retrofit and I’m getting great interest already from our customers” Richie adds.

The third light fitting, completing the trio of new products from Raytec launching at the show is the SPARTAN Street; a new range of high-performance general area luminaires designed specifically for access roads, pathways, and building perimeters within hazardous area environments.

This year AP Haslam celebrates 10 years partnership with Raytec as their exclusive hazardous area lighting supplier. Over the years AP Haslam have supplied Raytec luminaires into many of the top distilleries and pharma companies in the Ireland and as Keith explains “our success has always been built on having quality products and great service”. “Raytec not just manufacture robust long lasting products they offer a unique lighting design service for our customers” Keith adds. “This saves our customers money, as a properly designed lighting scheme will save on unnecessary fittings and avoid inflated ongoing running costs”
