  • Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, celebrated its 10th anniversary as the title sponsor of the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris. The event, took place on April 2, 2023, bringing together runners from across the world in support of a more sustainable future.

This year, a record 6,500 runners signed up as part of Schneider’s corporate #SEGreenRunners team, demonstrating how the company’s employees, customers and partners are determined to work together to accelerate the transition to a cleaner and fairer world. Schneider’s #SEGreenRunners community is a global sporting movement that aims to inspire people to lace up their sneakers and share their training progress, while encouraging good sporting habits that reduce runners’ environmental impact and promote inclusion and wellbeing.

The 46th edition of the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris once again took people who live and breathe running on a tour of the French capital against a majestic backdrop. After starting from the Champs-Élysées, the course took them past Place de la Concorde before skirting the Opéra de Paris, Place Vendôme and the Louvre Pyramid. The field then set course for Place de la Bastille and the Bois de Vincennes before the traditional return trip to the French capital, advancing from east to west on the quays of the Seine. The finish line was still in Avenue Foch, but the section in the Bois de Boulogne was abridged so the crowds could enjoy the race and cheer on the future finishers for a bit longer.

Sharon Cronin, Head of Marketing at Schneider Electric Ireland and race participant commented “As a marketer nothing will ever compare to running, with over 52,000 other participants, down the Champs Elysees covered in Schneider Electric’s branding. The beautiful sights of Paris proved to be a welcome distraction from the challenging 42.195km, particularly after 30km when my body began to ache. The roars from the crowds rejuvenated me throughout the course and thankfully got me across that finish line!”.

43% of participants had never done a marathon before including Shane O’Donnell, Business Intelligence Analyst at Schneider Electric Ireland who shared his experience as a first timer, “Both the training and race itself was extremely challenging physically and mentally. However, the feeling of crossing the finish line made it all worthwhile. The atmosphere was incredible and the views along the way were spectacular.”

Cork man CJ McCarthy ran the marathon and successfully fundraised over €31,000 for the Cork University Maternity Hospital, “A fantastic well-run event. The support on the streets of Paris was amazing. I don’t think I could have picked a better marathon to fundraise for the CUMH.” All funds raised will go directly to CUMH to help build a new Neonatal Family Sanctum. This will provide a space away from the clinical environment for families with seriously ill mothers or babies. It will also include a parent’s room to allow parents to take some time out and have privacy during a very stressful time.
