This too, is true for the two
businessmen celebrating 25 years in
business working together, this year…
John Moran of JM Distribution and Dr.
Tony Doyle of Doyle & Tratt Products,
Varilight.
John and Tony whilst sharing and
enjoying good times and stories
together, on Tony’s recent trip
to Dublin, discovered that they
had more in common than they
originally thought. Like so many
business people before them, their
opportunities arose from adversity.
They both were made redundant
by their respective employers and
struggled to make sense of what or
how their futures would unfold.
Dr Tony Doyle, who is third generation
Irish and who’s family hail from
Taghmon in Co. Wexford, started the
business more than 40 years ago when
his wife Carole suggested that his
original drill speed controller would
be better employed to control the
brightness of domestic lights and the
Varilight dimmer switch was born.
Since then, through Tony’s endless
pursuit of improving and developing
electrical components, Varilight has
achieved the UK’s most prestigious
recognition of business achievement
for Enterprise and Innovation,
Ƥ ͜͜͢͞
their superior control of dimming
challenging loads such as dimmable
LED’s.
John, who at the age of 50, having had
a very successful sales and sporting
career, was made redundant at a time
in life when most people are starting
to wind down a bit. Faced with this
challenge and little hope of getting
another job, he took his redundancy
package, along with all the strength
and courage he had, to embark out
on his own. He forged his own new
business and career in the form of JM
Distribution.
John attributes his success to the
agency he has with Varilight but
that would be nothing without the
support, friendship and loyalty of
his valued customers over the years.
As his catch phrase has always been
‘old friends are best’ and indeed they
certainly have proved to be just that!
Varilight is now the brand leader
in LED dimming, with its two
awarding winning ranges VPro &
VCom dimmers. Between them
they can dim from 3 watts up to 600
watts of LED’s. Due to their unique
patented technology, their success in
dimming all dimmable LEDs is down
to their versatility. The technology
in the VPro & VCom allows multiple
programming functions. VCom
dimmers are suitable for LEDs
requiring Leading-edge control, while
ơ Ƭ
Trailing-edge control. Both dimmers
have a choice of three dimming
modes and an adjustable minimum
brightness level to get the best from
ơ
technologies in the market. The result
is perfect compatibility between the
Varilight dimmers and all varieties of
dimmable LED lamps.
Both businesses work very closely
together. JM Distribution gathers
direct information and feedback from
customers ensuring any changes and
developments that they would like to
see can be adapted and incorporated
into future versions of the range. As
all Varilight products are designed,
developed and manufactured in the
UK and not in Asia like many others,
it allows this quick adaptation into
the ever changing and expanding LED
market here.
While both Tony and John continue
to work in the businesses today, they
have both been joined by their next
generations, John and Paul Doyle,
Tony’s sons and Suzanne Moran,
John’s daughter. It is their next
generation’s aspiration, to bring both
businesses forward, hopefully into
the next 25 years, under the guiding
light and wisdom of their fathers, for a
bright future together.
