RFE: Smarter Monitoring, Predictive Maintenance, Protected Assets

New safety and condition-monitoring solutions aim to reduce downtime, improve electrical asset visibility, and support the shift from reactive to predictive maintenance across critical industries.

RFE is strengthening it’s commitment to delivering world-class reliability and predictive maintenance solutions to the Irish market through a partnership with IRISS. Together, the companies are supporting sectors including electrical infrastructure, renewables, manufacturing, utilities, pharmaceuticals, and other critical environments with technologies designed to improve safety, optimise performance, and future-proof maintenance strategies.

At the centre of the offering is a shared focus on smarter asset insights and safer operating conditions, enabling facilities to move away from reactive maintenance models and towards more connected, data-driven, and resilient operations.

Among the key technologies is the Safe-Connectrange, which provides a simple yet highly effective visual warning of overheating conditions. Using thermochromic indicators that permanently change colour once critical temperature thresholds are exceeded, Safe-Connect helps maintenance teams identify potential electrical faults early. This reduces the risk of equipment failure, limits unplanned downtime, and improves overall workplace safety.

The indicators are durable, and require no power, they deliver continuous 24/7 monitoring without maintenance overhead. Installation is straightforward—clip on, stick on, or paint on—requiring no specialist training. The result is instant visual awareness of overtemperature events, even for non-technical personnel, helping issues to be addressed before they escalate.

E-Sentry: Continuous Wireless Asset Monitoring

Complementing this is E-Sentry, a fully integrated system of wireless sensors, hubs, and smart tags designed to provide continuous visibility of electrical and mechanical assets in demanding industrial environments. By enabling real-time condition monitoring, E-Sentry reduces the need for frequent physical panel inspections, helping to improve both operational efficiency and technician safety.

The system supports proactive maintenance strategies by identifying developing issues before they become critical failures. This early warning capability allows maintenance teams to plan interventions more effectively, reduce unplanned outages and extend asset life while maintaining operational continuity.

VPT Series IR Windows: Advanced Infrared Inspection Access

Also included in the portfolio are advanced infrared inspection solutions such as the VPT Series, part of the latest generation of IR windows. The VPT Series uses proprietary Poly-View System™ technology, enabling compatibility with a wide range of thermography cameras for monitoring energised electrical equipment.

Unlike conventional solutions, the clear polymer optic allows for both infrared and ultraviolet inspections, including corona detection using specialised cameras. Designed for industrial-grade performance, the VPT Series features a reinforced patented grill engineered to withstand high-voltage switchgear environments while maintaining inspection flexibility and safety.

Supporting Safer, Smarter Industrial Operations

Together, these technologies provide a layered approach to predictive maintenance—from simple visual overtemperature detection through to advanced wireless monitoring and full-spectrum infrared inspection capability. RFE and IRISS say the combined offering is designed to help facilities reduce risk, improve decision-making, and transition towards a more intelligent maintenance model that prioritises safety, reliability, and long-term operational performance.
